Inspiration part 2 – My Paper Crane

I hope everyone had a lovely week, I had a great time at the apples and pears craft fair yesterday at the Art Organisation in Nottingham, and many thanks to the lovely couple who bought the grey yeti, I am so pleased he has a happy home :) .

This week I am going to share with you My Paper Crane. The type of plush is not all that similar to mine, but as inspiration goes, these are pretty fabulous. I absolutely love the ethos behind this plush: Plush toilet, why? why not! That is exactly what I think plush should be, it doesn’t have to be all teddy bears and bunny rabbits and so I just love the element of quirkyness in her work. I think the plush toilet has to be my favorite piece so far, but I also love the moldy bread! it looks so sad, and makes me feel so sorry for them. Below is a few samples of her work.

If you want to have a look at some more of the fabulous work of My Paper Crane you can find their website here, Etsy shop here and Flickr account here. I strongly suggest you go and have a nose at the Flickr account, sooooo much inspiration for me there.

Inspiration part 1 – Blobby Farm

I think Monster Magic originated after I bought the ‘Plushorama’ book, I took so much joy and inspiration from this book, as well as learning some techniques. I thought it might be nice to share some of the other plush designers out there with you all, the ones which I think have most influenced me. I thought it might be nice to do these in small sections so I am going to start off with Blobby Farm.

I absolutely love the work of Blobby Farm, unfortunately they stopped plushing in 2007 but I am so pleased that the website is still active. I love nipping over there when I have a spare moment to bath in all the fabulous colours and quirky faces! Its very hard to pick a favourite Blobby, but I think that I have to say I like Blobzilla the best! The things I like best about Blobby Farm has to be that no two Blobbies are the same, you can tell alot of love went into making these. I really enjoy how they use cut out pieces of fleece to add pattern, colour and interest to the Blobbies. These really are quiet simple but so very very effective.

So pop over and have a look at the fabulous Blobby Farm website – www.blobbyfarm.com, there is lots there besides the Blobbies (but why would you need any more?) and I hope you can get as much inspiration from them as I do. Hey, why not even have a go at making a Blobby of your own?

Busy, Busy, Busy

It has been very busy at Monster Magic lately. My delve into the world of craft fairs has been a lovely experience, lots of lovely customers and the other crafters have been very welcoming. I look forward to doing lots more of these in the future. I am also pleased at how well the new yeti has gone down, I have had so many lovely comments on them, and also some purchases which is great. I hope to try and take over the world one yeti at a time!
I will try and blog a little more now, I have just been so busy making there has not been enough time for photo shoots! I must also take some pics of the new bat keyrings.

What a lovely weekend

Many thanks to everyone that came along to sneinton market at the weekend, and to all the other stall holders, it was a great event and I really enjoyed it. Obviously most thanks to Socksy Beasts for sharing the scary experience with me and making it so lovely. If you need to find socksy beasts you can find them on facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/socksybeasts1. I am very much looking forward to getting out there into the public again to showcase my wares.

I have put the remaining 2 of 5 yeti’s on the folksy site so go check them out. I have also listed some new bunny hanging decorations which I have made with easter in mind. I hope you like.

Now just off to the Nottingham Craft-off with some good friends, I am really excited by the idea of good company, drinks, entertainment and the concept of craft!

Busy times!

A lot has been going on over at Monster Magic trying to prepare for the craft weekend this weekend. Business Cards, setup items, making of enough stock, the list is endless but I am hopeful I can manage to get everything done in time. I re-furbed the Folksy shop, took new pics for 90% of the stock and did a new banner, I am very pleased with how it is looking now.  I have also managed to make this blog accessible via www.monster-magic.co.uk so now there is a much easier way to remember how to fine me!

Despite all this going on however I have also been able to make some more yeti’s and have got on with some custom orders. You can see pics of the new yeti’s below. I am definitely loving the white!

So take a look at the new look shop, nip onto flickr for a glance at the full photoshoot pics, become a fan on facebook, and if you are in Nottingham at the weekend come along to sneinton market and  say hello in person.
